I became curious about CBD oil after various friends and experts in the wellness space shared amazing results. Detaching from my marijuana bias, the anti-inflammatory properties, antioxidants to calm “mom stress”, and sleep quality benefits were intriguing to me.
Our endocannabinoid system regulates many functions including sleep, mood, appetite, and more. Cannabis has over 80 different cannabinoids that work together synergistically with endocannabinoid receptors for medicinal benefits.
I had given up internet research twice due to uncertainty about the right product and quality. What gives? Regulation hasn’t caught up to the CBD industry which some describe as the Wild West.
Thanks to “The Genius Life” podcast, I stumbled across Gretchen Lidicker, a CBD outsider, health editor for MindBodyGreen, and author of “CBD Oil, Everyday Secrets: A Lifestyle Guide to Hemp-Derived Health and Wellness.”

When purchasing CBD, Gretchen’s suggests:
1. Buy organically from companies that demonstrate third-party lab testing. Products in the market can be laden with pesticides and heavy metals.
2. Opt for a Full Spectrum (from the whole plant) product with all the terpenes, essential oils and only a negligible amount of THC (the intoxicating part) for everyday wellness.
3. Avoid product brands capitalizing on the CBD trend by listing “cannabis seed” or “Cannabis sativa seed”, the scientific name for hemp seed. Hemp seed oil won’t have the same properties as hemp extract/CBD oil
4. Choose MCT or coconut oil, over more inflammatory Omega 6 carrier ingredients.
Our unique goals and individual biology will drive ideal dosage which may require 3-4 days of experimentation. 10 mg is on the low end of the potency spectrum while 100 mg is high.
